So happy joy -- Flickr replied me yesterday to say that my
account had been accidentally caught up in a purge they were doing; they have now fully restored it and all is well. In truth though, I was rather dismayed to learn that Flickr can -- and does -- delete accounts without warning, so one bonus of the whole thing was that it forced me to look around at other platforms and I was pleased to discover quite a few. It certainly does reinforce the fact that one should definitely always back up ones files!
